Pam Phinney has served as financial secretary at First Methodist Church Joshua since 2009. When she's not preparing reports or reconciling accounts, Pam is the director of Lay Servant Ministries in the Central Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church. Her role is to work with conference leaders to identify, train, equip, nurture, and support lay servants to develop their gifts to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. She is also treasurer at Saginaw United Methodist Church.
In 2016, Pam was the recipient of the Morris Walker Award, which recognizes laity for exemplary service to their church, their community and the conference. She is a “preacher’s kid,” the daughter of Sidney Roberts, for whom the CTC’s Roberts Center for Leadership is named, and often quips “I am carrying on the family torch.”
Speaking of family, Pam lives across the street from her 92-year-young mother and next door to her daughter and three oldest grandchildren. Pam's son, daughter-in-law, and youngest granddaughter live a few blocks away also! They find every excuse to gather for a family meal. Pam is a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys and can be found tailgating before every home game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
An interview with Pam:
Favorite Scripture ... Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. ~ Matthew 22:37-40
Drink order at Sonic ... Large Diet Coke.
Favorite Dessert ... Oatmeal raisin cookies.
Best gift you've received ... a 1966 Ford Mustag with four in the floor. It was pale green with a black stripe down the middle, and off to college I went!
Favorite season ... Fall. Cooler nights and nature's colorful displays are incredible.
